So yesterday on the way home from Home Depot we found this little guy huddled in shock on the side of the road. It looked like something had gotten him lots of feathers were ripped out but I didn't see any blood. Anyway, it was too late to call a vet, so we ran home, got our smallest cat carrier and a towel and went and got him. We took him home and kept him in the arm darkish office. We put some water and food in the carrier  (raw sunflower seeds and almonds, a crumbled hard boiled egg, and some salmon) but we didn't think he live out the night he was in such bad shape. We woke up this morning to him standing on the plate where his food once was (nom) looking at us, lol. We took him to the wildlife center where they rehab wild animals for free. The vet is going to check him out tomorrow monring and call us. If he's good, we'll take him back home and release him close to where we found him. If he needs to stay a few days, we'll donate some $ to them and then release him if he makes it. I'd actually love to do some volunteer work at this place once my back gets stronger.
This morning on the way to the farmer's market we saw a dead coyote on the side of the road. It was a very young little female, barely a juevenile, and she looked like she'd suffered. It really killed us both, so we took her home to bury her. As we drove into the driveway, we saw 3 yearling bucks eating the beejeezuz out of our apple trees, lol.

Buck #3, biggest anters, eating our neighbor's raspberries. I get such a kick out of these guys, it really cheered me up today. We buried the little coyote under one of the apple trees and planted some flowers on top of her grave and lit a candle for her. =[
  • OH he looks beautiful! I am glad they are going to take care of him. And such cute little deer.

I am sorry about the baby coyote. So sad.
    • IKR? The tech said the crow's just barely out of chickhood. And he looked little to me, so ya... waiting for the vet to call this morning.
  • awwwww, Im happy you rescued him! I used to work at a veterinary rehab clinic and if yiu want to see pics of Canada Geese we rehabbed, click on my "vienna the goose" tag! :)
    • OMG! My husband's company is called Grey Goose! LOL! SQUEAKY!!! What a doll he was. I didn't even know him and I'm sad he passed away. What happened to him? Those youtubes of him playing chase and swimming were hilarious. He kept getting out of the water, running away, coming back and splashing back, lol. Also Vienna, is she over her intestinal infection yet? Did they release her yet?

      I MUST KNOW!
      • She was released a few weeks ago I was told :)

Poor Squeaky had a mass in his liver that ruptured and killed him, the poor guy. I looooooved him, he would sit in my lap and sleep when I was there late at night restocking the clinic and doing treatments heets for the next day.
        • Wow, good for Vienna! Aww, poor Squeaky. What a cutie he was. =[
          • I'd sit on the ground and eat lunch with Vienna, and she'd come up and beg for pieces of my sandwich, lol
            • Awwwww! This sort of blows the mean geese thing, even though I did read she bit you a couple times. =}
              • It was understandable, we had to handle her a lot and tube feed her quite a bit since some of the meds killed her appetite, so I'd be pretty aggressive too, lol.

                • Oh it's absolutely understandable. I don't hold bites or scratches against animals. Plus, you're right, I'm sure I'd act exactly the same way myself.
  • Awwww, I'm so glad you were there to help the crow (again, heh). They just seem to know where to find you. ;)

You totally should volunteer at the wildlife rescue when you can! It's so fulfilling, you'd love it!

Could you tell what happened to the coyote? Was she hit by a car, maybe?

Wish we had deer in our yard here.
  • Thanks for helping the crackbaby.
  • Duh.... brain is not working. Just realized I read the coyote part of your story... it just wasn't processing. Bleh. Poor thing. :-(

I'm sorry you had to bury her.

But I am still very jealous of where you live!!! Such beautiful creatures!!!!
  • That's cool things might work out with the bird. :)
